Position Overview:

This role encompasses professional supervisory responsibilities in directing, analyzing, and interpreting central accounting and auditing functions.

The work involves the planning and oversight of various components related to the organization's accounting and financial reporting processes, as well as auditing activities.

The individual in this position will be tasked with developing and implementing processes or strategies to fulfill special assignments and projects aimed at achieving the objectives set forth by management.

It is expected that the candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the organization's departments and financial structure. Work will be guided and assessed through the establishment of goals and the evaluation of progress toward achieving those goals.


Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct audits and investigations to ensure the integrity of accounting records and systems maintained by staff, reporting findings and recommendations.

Reconcile records with controls maintained by the finance department.

Monitor and ensure adherence to operational policies, procedures, and accounting guidelines.

Analyze reports and records to identify trends or discrepancies, initiating reporting to appropriate officials along with proposed corrective actions.

Supervise and/or assist in the preparation of revenue and expenditure estimates for the annual budget.

Facilitate internal and external audits within the area of responsibility.

Provide instruction, assistance, and advice to colleagues in technical accounting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping issue resolution.

Ensure compliance with accounting principles and procedures as established by relevant standards and guidelines.

Prepare and/or review complex financial reporting documents, including those submitted to external departments.

Design, prepare, and review financial summaries for assigned funds/areas for quarterly and annual financial reports.

Completion of work assignments may necessitate the operation of a vehicle.

Qualifications:

In-depth knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, with the ability to apply and adapt standard methods to complex accounting and auditing activities.

Proficient in using computer systems, including spreadsheet development, and performing complex mathematical and statistical operations.

Considerable knowledge of macro systems in electronic spreadsheet development.

Familiarity with the theory and procedures of governmental and utility accounting.

Understanding of modern office practices and procedures.

Ability to develop and implement accounting and auditing systems and procedures.

Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, representatives of external agencies, and the public.

Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.

An employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.


Required Experience and Training:

A bachelor's degree in accounting (specific accounting courses are necessary if the degree is in business administration with an emphasis in accounting) and/or an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, along with a bachelor's degree from a four-year institution with a major in accounting, business administration, or a related field.

A minimum of four years of experience in accounting or auditing, with at least three years focused specifically on financial systems.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.


Preferred Experience and Training:

Experience in a supervisory role over staff or projects.

Courses or experience in governmental accounting are highly preferred.
