Position: Environmental Services Supervisor

Type: Permanent, Full Time

Location: Stratford ON, with remote work options

Role Overview: The Environmental Services Supervisor will report directly to the Manager of Environmental Services while also providing support to the Manager of Public Works as necessary. This role entails overseeing the maintenance and staffing of wastewater collection and stormwater management systems, acting as a liaison for customer inquiries regarding these services, and fulfilling the responsibilities of the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage daily maintenance and operational tasks, including staffing, performance evaluations, labor relations, and project management.
  • Supervise the distribution of daily work and ensure quality assurance across work sites managed by staff and contractors.
  • Address any health and safety complaints or grievances that may arise during operations.
  • Respond to emergency repairs and projects as required, including after-hours situations.
  • Oversee maintenance programs and remediation efforts for wastewater and stormwater systems.
  • Assist Public Works management with winter control operations and seasonal tasks as needed.
  • Provide support for environmental compliance and optimization to the Public Works Department.
  • Conduct necessary data collection, record-keeping, and report writing.
  • Handle inquiries and service issues from internal and external stakeholders, including the public and contractors.
  • Collaborate with Public Works and Engineering Services to provide necessary information and support.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Complete additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as environmental science or environmental engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a related role.

Required Skills and Certifications:

  • MECP Wastewater Collection Class II Certification.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and policies, including ECAs and MECP Regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of OHSA, MOE, HTA, Municipal Act, and Maintenance Standards.
  • Experience in supervising and managing staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work after hours and participate in standby duties as required.
  • Proficient in deductive reasoning and data analysis.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems effectively.
