Position Title: Texas Youth Engagement Coordinator

Salary: $4,632.50/month

ROLE SUMMARY:

NextGen America is on the lookout for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our youth engagement initiative in Texas. This program aims to inspire young individuals to participate in the electoral process by facilitating voter registration for thousands of young citizens throughout the state. Our mission is to empower young Texans, particularly those aged 18-35, to take an active role in shaping their government through voting.

PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: This position will be primarily based at designated educational institutions. It is essential to work on-site according to the outlined schedule.

In Texas, our focus will be on mobilizing young people within educational institutions and their local communities to advocate for progressive changes through voting. The main responsibilities of our coordinators will include traveling within their designated regions to register and encourage voters. Candidates must be eligible to register voters in their respective counties. Successful coordinators will be adept at motivating young individuals to participate in the electoral process through outreach efforts such as canvassing and community events. They will also collaborate with volunteers to achieve weekly and phase-specific goals.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: This role will report directly to the Regional Organizing Director.

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

WORKING CONDITIONS: This is not a remote position.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 25% travel outside of the assigned area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Achieve specified outreach goals, including voter registration and grassroots engagement.
  • Adhere to all data and reporting deadlines.
  • Conduct in-person outreach, including community engagement at local businesses and events.
  • Collaborate with educational institutions to enhance civic participation and voter registration efforts.
  • Recruit volunteers through various outreach methods to support engagement initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain student organizations on campuses, working with student leaders to facilitate events.
  • Build relationships with local community organizations and student groups.
  • Plan and execute events within the community and on campuses.
  • Recruit and train local volunteers to lead voter registration drives and mobilization efforts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY:

This position has a structured schedule as defined in the collective bargaining agreement. The working hours may vary based on the time of year, with expectations including:

  • Approximately 8-10 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • General availability for weekends and irregular hours.
  • Increased hours during peak events, potentially up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week leading up to major electoral events.

VOLUNTEER DEPUTY REGISTRAR ELIGIBILITY:

In accordance with Texas state law, candidates must qualify as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR). Eligibility criteria include:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must not have been adjudicated as mentally incapacitated.
  • Must not have been convicted of failing to deliver a voter registration application.
  • Must not have a felony conviction unless conditions for voting rights restoration are met.
  • Must be a resident of Texas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work independently and effectively.

  • Motivated with a solid work ethic.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and multitasking.
  • Previous experience in electoral organizing is advantageous.

SALARY DETAILS:

The salary for this position is set at $4,632.50/month, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
