About Young Invincibles:

Young Invincibles ("YI") is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization dedicated to enhancing economic opportunities for young individuals aged 18 to 34, while amplifying their voices in national political discussions and policy-making. Established in the summer of 2009 amidst the health care reform debate, YI has swiftly emerged as a prominent advocate for young people on critical issues such as health care, higher education, and employment. The organization has celebrated significant achievements, including the regulation of ACA health plans and the pausing of student debt repayment, while engaging hundreds of thousands of young adults through leadership development initiatives and collaborations with over 100 partner organizations.

Role of the Southern Organizing Coordinator:

The Southern Organizing Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Southern Director to enhance the organizing and leadership development initiatives of Young Invincibles' Southern office. This role involves training and mentoring a team of organizers and young adult leaders. The Coordinator will oversee the implementation of Young Invincibles' leadership development programs in Texas, including the Young Advocates Program (YAP), the Youth Advisory Board, and the Student Advisory Council, as well as other youth development and participatory action research initiatives. Additionally, this position will be responsible for maintaining the Texas ambassador network and managing alumni engagement activities. The Coordinator will work in partnership with various teams within Young Invincibles and external allies to promote integrated issue campaigns and will play a crucial role in state-level policy advocacy, research, and writing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all youth leadership development programs, including YAP training, onboarding, and graduation.
  • Foster and strengthen relationships with young adults involved in YI Texas programs.
  • Monitor and support young adults in their individual and group organizing projects.
  • Co-create strategies to advance YI's policy advocacy agenda in Texas, enhancing young adult participation in advocacy campaigns.
  • Assist in legislative and budget advocacy efforts in Texas.
  • Collaborate with the Southern Director to develop political education materials.
  • Design materials, work plans, and accountability systems for organizing initiatives.
  • Recruit, train, and support members of leadership development programs.
  • Work alongside the policy team to develop training and tactical plans.
  • Act as a spokesperson for YI's leadership development initiatives.
  • Travel to various events across the Southern region.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in grassroots organizing or youth leadership development.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate organizers and leaders for increased roles and responsibilities.
  • Extensive organizing experience within communities of color, young adults, college students, and other marginalized groups.
  • Creative and resourceful problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, educational institutions, government officials, businesses, and non-profits.
  • Exceptional writing and editing capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Willingness to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in facilitating presentations, group discussions, and training sessions.
  • A genuine passion for the mission of Young Invincibles.
  • Preferred experience in training and curriculum development.
