Advanced Practice Provider in General Surgery

The Medical University of South Carolina Health is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider specializing in General Surgery. This role is ideal for those who are committed to delivering exceptional patient care across a variety of environments. Below are the essential details regarding this position:

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver comprehensive care to patients of all demographics in multiple settings, including inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and emergency care.
  • Act as a first assist in surgical procedures and engage in patient consultations and admissions.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of experienced surgeons who are focused on employing the latest methodologies and technologies to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Employment Status: Salaried/Exempt

Weekly Hours: 40

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM, with flexibility required based on surgical schedules. On-call duties will be necessary.

Patient Care Focus: Inpatient, Outpatient, Surgical Assistance, Procedural Unit, Emergency Department Management/Consultation

Required Qualifications: Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. Current licensure or eligibility is required, along with Family Nurse Practitioner certification.

Preferred Experience: Prior experience as a surgical first assist Advanced Practice Provider is highly desirable.

Supervision: This position will operate under the guidance of a Primary Collaborating Physician employed by the Medical University of South Carolina Health.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • All necessary certifications must be current prior to the start date:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Adult Surgery.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Pediatric Surgery.
  • DHEC and DEA licenses.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient evaluations, provide treatment plans, and initiate referrals as necessary.
  • Document and bill for services provided.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects and clinical research initiatives.
  • Support compliance and regulatory activities.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and mentorship of students.
  • Adhere to all licensing and certification standards.
  • Travel between various campuses may be required.

Physical Demands:

The role requires the ability to perform duties while standing, walking, and sitting. Candidates must possess good physical dexterity, vision, and the capability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. The position may involve working in diverse and challenging environments.
