HDR is seeking a Senior Fire and Life Safety Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services Group. This role will involve providing essential consulting and design expertise across various sectors, including science and technology, data centers, federal facilities, aviation, and more. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and leading a team in North Carolina, collaborating closely with Fire and Life Safety Leads in other regions, and serving as a consultant to internal project teams and external clients.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Fire and Life Safety Engineer will be expected to:

• Leverage their expertise as a technical subject matter expert and manage projects in the Fire and Life Safety domain.
• Provide leadership in the ongoing development and delivery of our fire and life safety design services.
• Engage in business development and proposal activities.
• Participate in various services, including fire and life safety systems design, code consulting, performance-based design, and emergency management planning.

On a daily basis, the Senior Fire and Life Safety Engineer will also be responsible for:

• Leading fire protection engineering and code consulting efforts.
• Managing dedicated fire and life safety projects.
• Analyzing existing fire protection systems and designing new systems.
• Ensuring compliance with life safety, building, and fire codes.
• Developing comprehensive design analyses and accurate reports.
• Conducting on-site project observations and reviews as needed.
• Maintaining effective communication with internal and external clients.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Fire Protection Engineering PE registration is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in technical fire protection design or consulting.
  • Proficiency in designing fire sprinkler, suppression, and alarm systems, along with knowledge of relevant codes.
  • Project management experience is essential.
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships with project teams and clients.
  • A proactive attitude and commitment to our dynamic employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in electric vehicle charging facilities, healthcare, data centers, or industrial processes.
  • Experience in recruiting and managing team members.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
