Concentrating solely on the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, our portfolio encompasses over 80 properties, translating to more than 5,500 residential units and 3.3 million square feet of commercial space, which includes office, retail, and industrial properties. Our dedicated team of over 230 industry professionals manages this portfolio with a hands-on, vertically integrated strategy.

This pivotal position is tasked with overseeing the IT department and technological operations within a real estate organization that manages multifamily and commercial properties. The Chief Technology Officer will be accountable for all aspects of technology, systems, and data management within the organization, including the network infrastructure at both the corporate headquarters and all owned properties, cloud applications, platforms, Yardi ERP, cybersecurity, and PropTech solutions. Furthermore, the CTO will lead the exploration and integration of both existing and emerging technologies across all business facets, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of complex technologies while communicating effectively and engaging hands-on when necessary. This role may supervise up to three direct reports and will involve managing several outsourced service providers. A strong focus will be placed on collaborating with Executives to implement top-tier property technologies and enhance tenant experiences. We embrace a hybrid work model, expecting a minimum of four days in the corporate office to foster collaboration, innovation, and celebration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with the Executive Team to drive technological advancements within the organization.
  • Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for technology integration within the business and properties to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Establish and manage a budget for IT operations and capital expenditures, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Formulate and uphold necessary policies, procedures, systems, and controls, including cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and end-user computing.
  • Promote data utilization through tools and systems, enhancing technologies such as Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence tools, and AI.
  • Effectively lead IT team members and coordinate with multiple outsourced vendors.
  • Assess, contract, and evaluate the performance of outsourced vendors, considering their impact on operational costs.
  • Benchmark various services and their total cost of ownership for the organization.
  • Develop and enhance a cybersecurity program tailored to the organization's needs while mitigating risks.
  • Standardize technology usage processes.
  • Exhibit strong capabilities in supporting and managing a team across diverse technology domains, including networking (Cisco Meraki), cloud platforms, and productivity tools (Microsoft Azure and Office 365), as well as our core ERP/Accounting system, Yardi.
  • Foster a service-first culture within the IT department.
  • Evaluate and recommend innovative technologies to all business units, driving efficiency and quality improvements.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with vendors, peers, and industry stakeholders to leverage and benchmark the company's IT objectives and initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Preferred experience in the real estate sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and manage small teams and leverage outsourced partnerships effectively.
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience, including team management.
  • Proven success in a complex organization with multiple divisions and asset types, deploying technologies for various applications.
  • High proficiency in Yardi and related platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft cloud technologies (365 and Azure).
  • Prior experience in developing and enhancing an organization's cybersecurity posture.
  • Strong understanding of multi-site networking and cloud connectivity.
  • Familiarity with databases, BI tools, and reporting; experience with AI is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and delegate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

The salary range for this position is $190,000 to $210,000 annually, with additional bonus incentives. The final salary offered will typically fall within this range and will depend on various factors, including position responsibilities, experience, skill set, internal pay equity, and other relevant qualifications.
