Position Overview

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is a premier engineering consultancy specializing in power systems, offering a comprehensive range of services including engineering, system planning, technical consultation, project management, and environmental planning. Our expertise spans various system voltages from 4.16 kV to 765 kV.

We are currently seeking a qualified Lead Substation Engineer to join our team. This role involves the design and generation of engineering schematics for the installation and commissioning of both electro-mechanical and microprocessor-based protection relay systems within high voltage substations. These systems are crucial for safeguarding and managing the functionality of distribution and transmission lines, large power transformers, capacitor banks, reactors, and associated electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering drawings and documentation for high voltage substation projects.
  • Design and implement installations of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Data Distribution Frame Relays (DDFRs), Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems.
  • Collaborate with design teams throughout the conceptual, preliminary, and final design phases of station projects ranging from 4.16 kV to 500 kV.
  • Produce essential diagrams including one-line, three-line, schematics, panel elevations, and wiring diagrams.
  • Mentor and train junior staff, fostering their professional development.
  • Occasional travel may be required for project needs.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and have a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in specifying, configuring, and generating engineering drawings for high voltage substations. A strong background in power system protection and control is essential. While a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred, it is not mandatory. Candidates with experience adhering to Southern California Edison (SCE) standards will be given preference.

Strong leadership skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication abilities, are crucial for success in this role. Applicants must be able to manage teams effectively and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
