Simulation Engineer for Counter-WMD Technologies

Position Overview:
The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team as a Counter-WMD Modeling and Simulation Specialist. This role is pivotal in providing technical and program management support to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in the development of counter-WMD weapons and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
  • Offer expert technical guidance in the research and development of counter-WMD weapon systems and supporting technologies.
  • Utilize analytical tools to conduct predictive calculations that inform program management decisions.
  • Collaborate with government program managers and teams to deliver technical recommendations for the effective use of both inventory and developmental CWMD weapon systems in counter-WMD scenarios.
  • Engage closely with military personnel from the Army, Air Force, and other government entities to define operational user requirements for new technologies and software development.
  • Perform a variety of system engineering and technical program management support functions across a diverse portfolio of programs and activities.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A Master's degree in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant hands-on experience.
  • Experience in engaging with US Warfighters and stakeholders to develop and document capability requirements.
  • An active Department of Defense Top Secret clearance with eligibility for SCI access.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively brief program managers and senior leaders on program support activities and status.
  • Expertise in modeling and simulation, particularly with relevant WMD codes (e.g., IMEA, HPAC).
  • A solid understanding of CBRN collateral effects and knowledge of CBRN agents/simulants.
  • A working familiarity with target/WMD/weapon interactions.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, the following are preferred:
  • A Doctorate degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A background in environmental fate, atmospheric transport, or environmental engineering.
  • Experience providing reachback support to military and government agencies for counter-WMD and collateral effects, with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with weapon systems, including operations, planning, testing, and evaluation, as well as military aircraft operations.
  • Experience in field testing, including test planning and writing final technical reports in operational terms.
