Boeing is looking for a Lead Optical Systems Engineer to become part of our dynamic team, focusing on advanced concept development in optical design, analysis, integration, and testing.

This role involves supporting the modeling and simulation of optical systems, as well as analyzing test data to refine models and enhance existing optical technologies.

We are in search of a candidate with a comprehensive skill set across various domains, including:

  • Infrared/Electro-Optical (IR/EO)
  • Visible and Ultraviolet (UV) technologies
  • Photonics and Fiber Optics
  • High Energy Laser Systems
  • Optical Components and Systems
  • Adaptive Optics and Imaging Systems

This position will collaborate with exceptionally skilled, high-performing, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to advance state-of-the-art optical imaging systems.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and validate electromagnetic specifications for electrical and mechanical systems, interconnects, and structures. Design architectures for integrating systems and components into higher-level platforms.

Conduct complex trade studies, modeling, simulations, and analyses to forecast performance and optimize designs according to established requirements.

Define and execute critical tests to validate design performance against specifications, ensuring compliance with supplier and partner requirements.

Engage with customers to establish essential requirements and project goals, and collaborate with teams to test and validate intricate system designs. This role requires on-site presence.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of experience understanding the interrelationships between system components and applying systems thinking principles.
• 5+ years of experience in modeling and/or simulating Electro-Optical and Infrared systems using technical computing languages like Matlab or Mathematica.
• 3+ years of experience in the design, development, testing, and troubleshooting of advanced electronic systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s or higher degree in optics or opto-electronics engineering.
• PhD in Optics.
• 5+ years of experience with adaptive optics systems and optical system design and integration.

Typical Education & Experience:
Education and experience typically acquired through advanced technical education and relevant work experience.

Work Environment:
This position is expected to be 100% on-site. The selected candidate will be required to work at the designated location.
