Job Overview

The Financial Controller plays a pivotal role in managing and directing the financial operations of Spartan Race, Inc. This position is crucial for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting and compliance with established accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the accurate and timely monthly closing of financial records, ensuring all reconciliations are completed according to established protocols.
  • Manage the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Tax, and Treasury departments.
  • Guarantee the accuracy of payroll processes, including proper account coding and compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Evaluate the performance of accounting personnel, including conducting performance reviews and overseeing hiring and training processes.
  • Support event reporting and revenue recognition, responding to ad-hoc financial requests as needed.
  • Act as the primary liaison for auditors, facilitating their requests and ensuring compliance with audit standards.
  • Assist Finance leadership in gathering financial data for stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and investors.
  • Develop and implement policies to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting across the organization.
  • Maintain strong relationships with various departments to foster collaboration and exceptional service delivery.
  • Identify inefficiencies in financial processes and drive innovative improvements to streamline operations.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives, including capital budgeting and profitability analysis.
  • Review and oversee sales and use tax submissions and annual returns.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to analyze financial data and inform strategic decision-making.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA certification is mandatory.
  • Over 10 years of extensive financial and accounting experience, preferably in a dynamic service-oriented environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and practices to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience in international accounting and franchise operations is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of both internal and external financial reporting requirements.
  • Proven strategic thinking capabilities with a track record of developing effective solutions.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Highly organized with a self-motivated approach to work.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Agile mindset with the ability to adapt priorities as needed.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in developing and mentoring accounting staff.
  • High ethical standards and integrity, inspiring trust among colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with financial systems (NetSuite preferred).
