Overview of the Science/Social Studies Educator Position

We are excited to present an opportunity for a Science/Social Studies Educator at Capital Village.

As part of an EL Education institution, our educators are dedicated to engaging students in significant, authentic, and productive tasks that showcase mastery of challenging learning objectives. This role encompasses a literacy-rich blend of Science and Social Studies standards, focusing on interdisciplinary strategies through EL Education modules. Below are the primary responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Instruct students in grades 6-8 on grade-level standards in Science and Social Studies, integrating EL Education methodologies
  • Collaborate with colleagues to co-instruct and deliver exemplary guidance to Associate Teachers
  • Participate in curriculum development and interdisciplinary projects as part of a team
  • Continuously evaluate student performance using a variety of assessment tools, including performance assessments and examinations
  • Leverage student data to customize instruction, effectively communicate student progress, and promote growth
  • Incorporate blended learning technologies and personalized platforms for tailored educational experiences
  • Address the diverse needs of students with disabilities and English Language Learners through differentiated instructional strategies
  • Maintain proactive communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress

Key cultural aspects of this role include:

  • Modeling and imparting Habits of Character to cultivate effective learning and ethical behavior among students
  • Employing classroom management strategies that encourage equity, collaboration, and a positive educational environment
  • Collaborating with the school counselor to address student needs
  • Leading a student 'Crew' and engaging in community-building initiatives and mentorship
  • Participating in professional development opportunities for personal and professional advancement

Qualifications and Attributes for Success at Capital Village:

  • A Bachelor's degree is mandatory for this position
  • Possession of a valid Teacher Certification (DC preferred) or eligibility within a year
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, ideally in a middle school urban context
  • Prior experience with EL Education and personalized learning platforms is highly regarded
  • Proven impact on student learning and the capacity to provide constructive feedback
  • Willingness to accept feedback and collaborate with peers and leadership
  • A passion for fostering inclusive learning environments and employing restorative practices
  • Strong collaborative skills and an entrepreneurial mindset for innovation
