Position Overview

The District of Columbia International School (DCI) is seeking a dedicated full-time Middle School English Educator. This role involves comprehensive instructional and planning responsibilities aimed at delivering an exceptional English education to students during the academic year.

Key Responsibilities

As an English Educator, you will:

  • Provide outstanding English instruction tailored to a diverse range of learners.
  • Design and implement curriculum aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Language framework.
  • Guide students through an advisory class, supporting various aspects of the school's educational program.
  • Maintain organization and accountability in a high-performing charter school environment.
  • Effectively manage the classroom to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Embrace feedback for continuous improvement in teaching practices.
  • Engage in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and language immersion initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development to elevate instructional quality.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, including general and special educators, coordinators, and school leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and students through various channels.
  • Promote cultural appreciation by leading activities related to French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures.
  • Ensure the successful integration of technology into the learning experience through our 1:1 Chromebook program.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Master's Degree in secondary education or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Ability to meet Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) standards under federal regulations.
  • Prior experience in teaching English is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with 1:1 technology in educational settings is advantageous.
