Manager of Police Financial Operations

Position Overview:
This role involves overseeing and executing technical accounting functions within the Budget Services Division of the New Orleans Police Department.
The incumbent will be tasked with establishing and maintaining a cohesive accounting system for various fund accounts sourced from state, federal, and external agencies, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and monitor the technical and financial aspects of the Police Department's operational and capital budgets.
- Supervise a team of accountants and support staff responsible for maintaining fiscal records for multiple grant programs.
- Maintain effective communication with all reporting agencies to ensure accurate records and comprehensive reporting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- A Master's Degree from an accredited institution, accompanied by three (3) years of professional experience in accounting or grants management, including fiscal oversight, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory role.
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, with five (5) years of professional experience in accounting or grants management, including fiscal oversight, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
Additional Information:
Professional experience is defined as experience gained in a position requiring a bachelor's degree for entry. All applications must be submitted in accordance with the guidelines specified in this announcement.
Background Check:
The hiring department will conduct interviews of qualified candidates prior to initiating a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.
Working Test Period:
The probationary period for all classified service positions is one year.
Substance Abuse Testing:
Candidates for certain positions may be required to undergo pre-employment substance abuse screening.
Good Moral Character:
All applicants must demonstrate good moral character, and any unsatisfactory character or employment history may result in disqualification.
Veterans Preference:
Veterans and certain family members may receive additional credit on original entrance examinations as specified in the relevant guidelines.
