Correctional Officer

Middlesex County NJ is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Correctional Officers. In this vital role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the safety and security of our correctional facility.
As a Correctional Officer, your primary responsibility will be to enforce facility rules and regulations, ensuring a secure and orderly environment for all inmates. You will work closely with other officers and staff members to maintain order, prevent disturbances, and respond effectively to emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce facility rules and regulations to ensure a safe and secure environment for all individuals within the correctional facility.
- Monitor inmate activities and behavior, identifying and addressing potential issues promptly.
- Conduct searches of inmates, cells, and common areas to prevent contraband from entering the facility.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, including disturbances, medical situations, and security breaches.
- Prepare clear and concise reports documenting incidents, observations, and actions taken.
- Collaborate with other officers and staff members to maintain a positive and professional work environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a police training course approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, demonstrating proficiency in firearm use.
- Ability to pass a thorough medical and psychological examination, ensuring fitness for duty and absence of conditions that could pose a risk to self or others.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.
Note: Appointees will be required to qualify/requalify in the use of firearms according to State of New Jersey regulatory requirements. Appointees to positions in SWAT, SERT, or related units must additionally qualify quarterly in the use of all weapons used by the unit.
