Key Responsibilities: As an Operating Engineer, your primary focus will be on the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility systems and equipment. You will be expected to showcase your technical proficiency in one specialized area (Electrical, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) while being versatile in other areas to effectively manage daily and weekly tasks.

Daily Duties Include:

  • Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on facility equipment at client locations.
  • Operate and maintain various systems including Solar Turbines, Heat Recovery Steam Generators, and High-Pressure Boilers.
  • Perform upkeep and repairs on Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Oversee facility services, preventative maintenance, inventory management, and technical expertise.
  • Ensure a sufficient supply of tools and materials for ongoing maintenance tasks.
  • Record operational readings and make necessary adjustments for optimal equipment performance.
  • Analyze monthly service requests to identify and resolve recurring operational issues.
  • Assess vendors and suppliers regularly for quality and competitive pricing.
  • Prepare and submit purchase orders and verify delivery accuracy.
  • Conduct periodic inventory checks of tools and instruments.
  • Monitor the quality and cost-effectiveness of external maintenance work.
  • Ensure minimal disruption during maintenance work in client spaces, followed by thorough clean-up.
  • Assist with event setups and breakdowns, including electrical and audiovisual coordination.
  • Collaborate with the operations team for building and equipment maintenance as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, management, and colleagues regarding project timelines and priorities.
  • Utilize CMMS systems for managing work orders and maintenance tasks.
  • Perform general interior maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Adhere to safety policies for hazardous material storage and disposal.
  • Maintain compliance with safety procedures and uphold cleanliness in work areas.
  • Recognize and mitigate risks, including conducting necessary Hazard Assessments.
  • Ensure adherence to state and county regulations.
  • Read and interpret schematics accurately.
  • Attend required work and safety meetings.
  • This position is campus-based and requires availability for call-in work.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

This is a union role with a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a vocational or trade program is preferred.
  • Two years of experience as an Operating Engineer in a Life Sciences or Medical facility is advantageous.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
  • A Blue Seal Operating Engineer License is required, with the expectation to obtain a Red Seal Operating Engineer License within one year of employment.
  • Ability to analyze system operations, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Proficient in computer usage and familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Safe Work practices, especially regarding energized work and PPE.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and lifting.
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions.

Compensation:

The estimated total compensation for this position ranges from $95,000.00 annually.
