SALARY $81, $97,248.32 Annually with a 5% premium for regular assignment to specific facilities, when applicable.

THE POSITION: The County of Santa Barbara is seeking to fill a full-time Facilities Maintenance Supervisor position within the Sheriff's Office. This role involves overseeing a team of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance personnel, as well as managing contract workers engaged in custodial services. The supervisor will perform advanced maintenance tasks and other related responsibilities as required.

Responsibilities Include:
  1. Conducting regular inspections of facilities to assess their condition.
  2. Identifying issues and initiating corrective actions.
  3. Planning and scheduling routine maintenance tasks; establishing work priorities; issuing work orders; preparing plans and sketches for remodeling projects; estimating material and labor costs; managing tools and equipment.
  4. Maintaining inventories of materials and equipment.
  5. Performing complex repair and maintenance activities.
  6. Supervising skilled and semi-skilled workers in maintenance tasks such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and general upkeep.
  7. Training and evaluating staff, ensuring quality of work.
  8. Maintaining records of time and costs; scheduling coverage for vacations and emergencies; ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years of journey-level experience in construction or maintenance, including one year in a supervisory role or as a lead worker in a specialty trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical).
  • Alternatively, a combination of training, education, and experience that meets the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Requirement: A valid California Class C Driver's License may be necessary for certain positions.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of building maintenance and repair methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems in buildings.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and supervise the work of others; perform complex repair tasks; maintain records and prepare reports.
