POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Pipeline Operations Specialist is responsible for the safe and effective management of field gathering and pipeline systems involved in the transportation of natural gas or natural gas liquids under the guidance of a supervisor. This role requires a solid understanding of the operation and upkeep of a field compression facility, processing plant, and/or pipeline system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the overall functionality of field gathering and pipeline systems.
  • Conduct pipeline locates and supervise the activities of contractors and pipeline companies operating near Targa pipelines and right-of-ways.
  • Execute One Call locates, marking pipelines, and ensuring proper notification and closeout as required.
  • Assist with pigging operations as necessary, adhering to appropriate documentation and procedures.
  • Manage inventory at designated sites for Glycol, Methanol, NGL's, and Produced Water.
  • Monitor pipeline balances, estimate and/or calculate flow rates and total volumes.
  • Assess pipeline conditions, identify flow restrictions in gas systems, and take necessary actions.
  • Gather data from electronic flow measurement (EFM) devices.
  • Contribute to the development of field operating procedures and train colleagues in safe and efficient operational practices.
  • Perform minor repairs and assist with major repairs on compression and related equipment.
  • Carry out routine startup/shutdown of all field equipment and execute emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Ensure pipeline maintenance and monitoring, including protection, corrosion monitoring, pipeline pigging, pressure maintenance, gas loss, line repairs, etc.
  • Responsible for the initiation and cessation of all station equipment, dehydration operations, and maintenance, while maximizing field compression efficiency.
  • Participate in certain Process Safety Management (PSM) functions and activities.
  • Conduct testing for O2 and H2S levels in gas streams.
  • Possess knowledge of PLCs and their functions, as well as flow, temperatures, and BTEX units.
  • Complete relevant work/hot work permits, lockout/tagout documentation, and engage in tailgate sessions with involved personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to interact with various teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Ability to execute all maintenance activities related to plant operations.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Software.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, and respond to call-outs as needed.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 lbs.
  • Capability to work in varying climate conditions.
  • Able to work in confined spaces: kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
  • Adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in pipeline technology or equivalent experience in pipeline operations, including purging, hydrostatic testing, and pigging procedures.
  • Ability to interpret pipeline maps and alignment sheets.
  • Experience with one calls in the New Mexico and Texas regions.
  • Certification in Polyethylene Pipe Fusing.
  • Pipeline Hot Tap Certification.
  • H2S Certification.
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Certification.
  • Familiarity with various process instrumentation, including pressure switches, temperature transmitters, flow switches, and gas detectors.
