Position Overview

This role requires adherence to the ethical standards of coding established by the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) and compliance with official coding protocols and the core values of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

The specialist will meticulously review medical records in conjunction with healthcare provider documentation, ensuring the assignment of precise codes for all services rendered by physicians and healthcare providers. This includes maintaining accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in code assignments for all services, covering procedural, diagnostic, and supply codes across various service locations.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties include coding and billing for patient interactions, managing claim denials, performing data entry, and providing education and correspondence with providers regarding coding updates and trends.

Required Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

Experience in coding and reimbursement or medical billing, preferably within a physician group or healthcare institution, totaling two years is required. Proficiency in procedural and diagnostic coding is essential; experience in an academic healthcare environment is preferred. Alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent along with current coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA is acceptable, with the requirement to maintain certification throughout employment.
