Chief Executive Officer

The Chief Executive Officer, in alignment with the goals, policies, and directives established by the affiliate Board of Directors, delivers comprehensive executive leadership for the Affiliate and ReStore. Key responsibilities encompass overseeing and guiding paid staff, enhancing the affiliate's infrastructure, acting as the primary communication conduit among directors, officers, committees, volunteers, and partner families, networking with community services, serving as the public representative and corporate spokesperson, and ensuring effective follow-up to maintain smooth organizational operations while fulfilling our mission's objectives.

Position Overview

Reports to: Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, specifically the Board Chairperson and the overall Board of Directors. The Executive Committee will gather input from the entire Board in conducting an annual review of the Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5 years in not-for-profit management or relevant managerial experience.

Requirements/Skills: Must effectively articulate the organization's mission, values, and objectives. Possess business acumen, fundraising expertise, leadership capabilities, and public relations skills. Must be organized, capable of meeting deadlines, and adept at managing multiple projects and competing priorities. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups is essential. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel are mandatory. Maintain an informed understanding of significant developments and trends in the field, including training provided by HFHI.

Employee Status: Exempt Position (Salaried)

Hours: 40-hour per week salaried position, requiring additional evening and weekend work.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

Key Responsibilities

Administration and Management (approximately 50% of time)

Serve as the chief administrator responsible for overseeing all aspects of affiliate operations in collaboration with the Construction and ReStore Managers.

Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures for the affiliate and ReStore, ensuring public accountability and adherence to Board-approved policies.

Manage talent across all affiliate operations by recruiting, retaining, developing, and supervising paid and volunteer staff in their assigned duties.

Maintain a professional working relationship with the Construction Manager, ensuring awareness of site progress to guarantee that projects are completed within time and budgetary constraints.

Provide oversight to Habitat ReStore by coordinating with the ReStore Manager to ensure effective execution of policies, procedures, goals, and mission.

Support the Board of Directors in making fundamental decisions, preparing strategic plans, and creating/maintaining policies.

Work with the Board to delineate which decisions require Board consultation and which can be delegated to staff and committees.

Authorize expenditures within the guidelines established by the Board of Directors.

Collaborate with the Board Chairperson to prepare agendas for Board meetings.

Consult with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper regarding bill payments and other financial reports as necessary for Board Meetings, grants, and funding sources.

Act as the communication link between the Board, Executive Committee, committees, and partner families.

Assist committee chairs and facilitate communication flow among committees, staff, volunteers, partner families, and the Board as appropriate.

Monitor the progress of all committees and support their efficient operation.

Attend committee meetings as appropriate and assist committees in fulfilling their responsibilities.

Foster a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates staff and volunteers.

Maintain confidential records for employees and Partner Family applicants.

Ensure consistent office hours.

Guarantee the affiliate's compliance with government regulations and HFH International policies.

Act as a liaison between HFH International and the local affiliate.

Resource Development (Approximately 25% of time)

Responsible for safeguarding, stewardship, and effective utilization of all organizational resources through sound financial practices.

Ensure sufficient funds are available to enable the organization to fulfill its mission.

Oversee the development of the annual budget and fundraising plan.

Ensure that the affiliate operates within the annual budget and executes the fundraising plan.

Assist the Fund Raising Committee in identifying and pursuing funding and grant opportunities.

Provide leadership in soliciting major gifts, including identifying and meeting with significant corporate and individual donors.

Cultivate in-kind material and land donations whenever feasible and report all real and potential donations to the appropriate committee chairperson.

Serve as a consultant to help implement fundraising programs such as special events, direct mail, and alternative financing strategies.

Collaborate with the finance committee to ensure completion of audits and other financial activities.

Address homeowner mortgage issues (delinquent payments, foreclosures, etc.).

Monitor the administrative cost to total cost ratio and take action to maintain it at a level consistent with local and HFHI guidelines.

Public Relations (Approximately 25% of time)

Act as the spokesperson for the affiliate.

Engage actively with relevant community groups that share the goals of HFH, including networking with regional affiliate executive directors.

Ensure that the affiliate's activities, programs, and goals are publicized through a consistent media presence.

Establish and maintain positive media relationships.

Oversee the quarterly production of a newsletter and other promotional materials.

Build sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with volunteers, home sponsors, partner families, community groups, and other organizations.
