Position Overview:

The Senior Technical Reporting Accountant is primarily tasked with the research and evaluation of the Company's technical GAAP and Statutory financial statement reporting positions.

This role is essential in ensuring that all external filings and reports maintain technical consistency, while also keeping abreast of current updates in GAAP and Statutory regulations, and communicating these updates to the finance leadership team.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the activities of accounting and insurance industry standard-setting bodies, such as FASB, SEC, AICPA, EITF, NAIC, and BCBSA, to assess the impact of new pronouncements on the Company's financial statements.
  • Draft and review accounting white papers and position papers, articulating the Company's stance on technical accounting topics.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the research of technical accounting issues related to the Company, engaging in discussions with external auditors regarding the evaluation of complex transactions.
  • Provide technical accounting support to various business units in their assessment of accounting issues.
  • Monitor and revise corporate accounting policies as necessary.
  • Participate in external reporting, ensuring that public disclosures are complete and accurate.
  • Consult with independent auditors on accounting matters and disclosure requirements as needed.
  • Engage in accounting due diligence and assist with M&A implementation and integration activities, including purchase accounting and fair value assessments.
  • Present updates on GAAP and Statutory matters to accounting personnel and finance leadership.
  • Contribute to various special projects and support other Finance Department functions as required.
  • Introduce innovative ideas and knowledge of accounting best practices and industry trends, aiding in their implementation.

Qualifications:

Experience in researching and developing technical accounting procedures in response to complex issues, with the capability to draft position papers and provide formal written guidance to management.

Strong technical accounting skills, adept at aligning accounting rules with real-world business objectives.

Demonstrated leadership abilities through successful project management, cross-functional team leadership, training, and process enhancement.

Analytical thinking skills, capable of applying analytical techniques for in-depth analysis and recommendations using sound judgment.

Ability to collaborate with all levels of management in both independent and team settings, with strong presentation and project management skills.

Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the workforce.

Capacity to manage multiple ad-hoc projects simultaneously while maintaining composure and sound judgment.

Demonstrated application of in-depth financial, actuarial, accounting, and business knowledge.

Proven ability to plan and organize work effectively, both for oneself and for others in the department, with minimal supervision.

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is typically required for proficiency in the competencies outlined above.
