POSITION SUMMARY

The Academic Support Coordinator for Youth at Trinity Church Wall Street collaborates with the Director of Youth & Community Partnerships and the Program Manager for Afterschool initiatives to deliver educational instruction, develop curriculum, and oversee logistics for the academic programs. This role involves providing tutoring for students in grades 6-12 across subjects such as Mathematics, English, History, and Sciences, as well as preparing them for standardized tests. The coordinator will also be responsible for staff training and connecting with educational resources throughout the city.

The compensation for this position is $65 per hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Youth Programming
  • Assist in the academic programming for Trinity Afterschool, including student tracking, inventory of study materials, tutor training development, and test preparation planning.
  • Develop innovative pathways for academic engagement and success for enrolled youth.
  • Coordinate with the Director and Program Manager to ensure effective systems for academic support.
  • Support local school partners interested in enhancing academic support.
  • Connect youth with qualified tutors and educators specializing in bilingual instruction and individualized education plans.
  • Source relevant study materials aligned with standardized testing requirements.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of youth participants through close supervision of activities.
  • Facilitate learning opportunities in a safe and productive environment during program activities.
  • Promote programs and advocacy initiatives that empower youth voices and foster critical thinking skills.
  • Instruct and mentor youth participants effectively.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and documentation.
  • Ensure the collection of surveys, applications, and other essential documents.
  • Be knowledgeable about emergency and safety procedures and respond appropriately during emergencies.
  • Create a culturally sensitive and safe environment for all youth participants.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Team to provide meals and snacks during activities.
  • Work with the Neighborhood Outreach team to connect youth in need with available resources.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and special projects as necessary.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines as per organizational policies.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Facilities, and Security for the setup and breakdown of activities.
Staff Training:
  • Maintain current certifications related to youth safety and compliance.
  • Engage in a professional development plan with support from the Youth & Community Care team.
  • Source and provide training for Youth Advisors in tutoring techniques.
Other:
  • Adhere to confidentiality rules and all organizational policies.
  • Perform all duties in alignment with the mission and core values of Trinity Church Wall Street.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and special projects as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ACTIVITIES:
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and mental health first aid.
  • Knowledge of standardized tests relevant to New York State and college admissions.
  • Proficiency with educational tools such as Google Classroom and Khan Academy.
  • Comfort discussing the values of the Episcopal Church.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse groups.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment for youth of all backgrounds.
  • Dedication to supporting youth facing personal and family challenges.

  • Availability to work Monday through Friday during specified hours.
  • Willingness to take on occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS:
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • Experience in academic advising and student services is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse youth populations in various settings.
  • Experience managing youth programs in community or educational environments.
