After-school coordinators will demonstrate creativity, innovation, and enthusiasm in their teaching and are expected to cultivate an environment that inspires children to think creatively, communicate effectively, explore independently, develop self-confidence, and approach conflicts with problem-solving skills.

We are looking to fill multiple positions to reinstate our after-school programs to in-person learning. These are part-time, hourly roles available during the academic year, following the NYC DOE schedule. After-school programs operate Monday – Friday from 2:30 - 6:00pm and clubs last 1.25 to 2.5 hours. Individual schedules will vary by program. Opportunities are available to lead multiple clubs across different locations.

Compensation: $44/hour
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Education Directors to develop program curriculum
  • Design lesson plans and curriculum aligned with Manhattan Youth's educational goals.
  • Facilitate classroom instruction that promotes student-centered, project-based learning
  • Organize and prepare activities and materials for daily schedules and guide children in classroom activities
  • Model and promote Manhattan Youth's core values and behaviors for staff and students
  • Work with colleagues to foster a positive community and showcase student achievements
  • Regularly communicate with the Program Director regarding classroom progress and challenges
  • Participate in staff meetings, development sessions, and fulfill training requirements
  • Ensure the safety of groups of children during activities, recreation, and outings, and manage emergency situations
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as required
Skills, Knowledge, and ExpertiseMinimum of 2 years teaching experience with middle or elementary school children, preferably in an after-school context; Bachelor's degree preferred; Demonstrated knowledge and passion for the subject area, with professional experience being advantageous; Familiarity with educational technology instruction and application; Ability to establish and maintain positive and respectful relationships with families, students, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds; Proactive problem-solver, capable of anticipating challenges and addressing unforeseen events thoughtfully; Openness to feedback, self-reflection, and a commitment to improving performance and outcomes; Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas and knowledge clearly; Flexibility to work across multiple sites as needed; A genuine love for, understanding of, and ability to nurture and support all children; Proficiency or coaching experience in some of Manhattan Youth's program areas (sports, arts, academic enrichment, leadership, etc.), with past participation in varsity or collegiate sports and/or performing arts being a plus.
