PROGRAM DESIGN: Roads to Success Inc. offers a diverse range of youth initiatives, including after-school programs, summer camps, retreats, conferences, and summer job opportunities, impacting thousands of young people across NYC annually. Our organization emphasizes the youth development philosophy of the Circle of Courage, fostering an environment of Belonging, Independence, Mastery, and Generosity within our programs. Our staff training strategies are designed to cultivate meaningful relationships with the young individuals we refer to as Our Future Leaders.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Group Leader is responsible for fostering a positive community culture among participants and ensuring that our program objectives are met. Group Leaders are expected to build meaningful relationships and serve as positive role models for the youth.
ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:
- Supervisor: Program Director
- Max Hours: 25 per week
- Days: 5 per week, Monday – Friday
- Compensation: $17 – $18 per hour
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participant Oversight:
- Ensure supervision of all scheduled activities and uphold the Zero Impact policy by monitoring program participants at all times during operations, including off-site events.
Activity Facilitation:
- Assist educators and activity specialists in delivering lessons and activities by actively engaging and encouraging participant involvement.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment to ensure safety and support during activities.
- Design and implement engaging academic enrichment and recreational activities that incorporate literacy, STEM, creative arts, youth development, and team-building elements.
Youth Development:
- Apply positive youth development principles through effective behavior management and discipline techniques that promote social, emotional, and cognitive growth, enhancing self-esteem and responsibility among participants.
- Establish positive relationships with participants and serve as a role model.
Professional Growth:
- Engage in meetings and workshops aimed at enhancing professional skills, as directed by the Program Director or agency, including a minimum of 15 hours of training annually.
- Collaborate with the program director, staff developers, and educational specialists to enhance professional competencies.
- Utilize skills and knowledge gained from training to elevate program quality.
Program Procedures and Safety:
- Comply with site-specific guidelines and program staff manuals, adhering to the NYS Child School Aged Child Care (SACC) Programs regulations to prioritize quality service and the safety of all participants.
- Report any behaviors that compromise service quality and participant safety, including incidents of physical injury or emotional/social harm.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth in educational or camp settings.
- Ability to lead and engage in group sports and recreational activities.
- Effective communication skills with all community members, demonstrating positive conflict resolution.
- Capability to mentor and support students, staff, and families while promoting cultural inclusiveness.
- Availability for part-time hours on school days and full-time hours during non-school days.
