Job Title: Used Car ManagerJob Summary

The Used Car Manager is responsible for ensuring the profitability of the used vehicle department by recruiting and managing a team of sales personnel, appraising and purchasing vehicles, and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Forecast and achieve sales goals, gross profit, and key expenses on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Lead, motivate, and monitor the performance of used-vehicle sales employees.
  • Develop and implement an annual operating forecast and budget for the used-vehicle sales department.
  • Stay up-to-date on federal, state, and local regulations affecting used-vehicle sales.
  • Direct and schedule department activities to ensure proper staffing.
  • Assist salespeople in setting realistic goals and objectives, and provide support to meet these goals.
  • Develop and implement a prospecting and sales control system to ensure follow-up with potential buyers.
  • Maintain vehicle inventory, monitor customer preferences, and conduct local market analyses to determine which vehicles to stock.
  • Conduct daily and weekly sales and sales training meetings.
  • Establish and enforce product-knowledge standards.
  • Oversee efforts to enhance the image and customer satisfaction ratings of the dealership.
  • Communicate with the new-vehicle sales manager regarding inventory needs.
  • Ensure salespeople are informed of new inventory and advertising efforts.
  • Appraise incoming used vehicles.
  • Ensure cosmetic and mechanical reconditioning is performed within cost and time limitations.
  • Plan and control the display of used vehicles.
  • Establish and control wholesaling activities.
  • Establish delivery procedures and ensure introduction to the service department and scheduling of the first service appointment.
  • Assist in developing advertising campaigns and promotions.
  • Stay informed about auto auction activity and prices, and attend auctions regularly.
  • Approve auction paperwork and provide documentation to the office.
  • Notify the used vehicle department manager of anticipated delivery of purchases.
Requirements
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and leadership skills.
  • At least 2 years of Used Car or Sales Manager experience in a dealership environment.
  • Luxury dealership experience is a plus.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and good driving record.
  • All applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to pass pre-employment testing, including background checks, MVR, drug test, credit report, and valid driver license.
