Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Humanities Liaison Librarian to join our team at the University of Vermont Libraries. As a key member of our Information and Instruction Services Department, you will play a vital role in supporting the teaching, learning, and research endeavors of the University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff in assigned liaison areas and other areas as appropriate.
  • Provide curricular and co-curricular support through the development and teaching of information literacy and of research skills.
  • Cultivate partnerships with liaison departments and faculty to support information literacy and research.
  • Work with faculty in assigned liaison areas to identify research and information literacy needs of majors and to design library instruction and support to those students.
  • Create instructional materials such as online tutorials and research guides.
  • Contribute to collection development decisions.
  • Develop, with support from mentors, an agenda for scholarship and/or creative activities.
  • Engage in service activities at library, university, association, and community levels.
  • Contribute to committees, working groups, teams, projects, or other initiatives that further the Libraries', the University's, and the profession's missions.
Requirements
  • Experience and/or ability to develop as a research and instruction/teaching librarian.
  • Work or educational experience (internship, practicum, coursework, etc.) related to instruction, reference, and/or consulting services in academic libraries.
  • Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills necessary for professional communication and scholarly work.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness of collaborating with others as part of a team; and the ability to engage and work productively with a variety of people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to take initiative, develop and complete projects, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Potential to develop as a scholar and contribute to the field of librarianship.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility; awareness and understanding of diverse thought, cultures, race, religion, gender, and other differences.
What We Offer

Librarians at the University of Vermont hold faculty appointments without tenure. As such, librarians are expected to perform in three areas: Educational Mission (Librarianship), Scholarly and Creative Activity, and Service. Decisions about rank at time of initial hire will be based upon each candidate's previous experience and will be at one of the following three ranks:

  • Library Instructor (Minimum salary: $56,878)
  • Library Assistant Professor (Minimum salary: $62,334)
  • Library Associate Professor (Minimum salary: $74,801)

We offer a generous benefits package, including TIAA/CREF (or alternative plan), managed health care plan, professional development funds, and 22 days of annual leave. Faculty librarians are represented by UVM United Academics.
