Position Overview

The Logistics Operations Manager is tasked with the effective oversight and coordination of transportation needs, ensuring optimal use of Drivers and Assets within the Tri-State Area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and analyze vehicle incidents, compiling detailed reports.
  • Possess knowledge of various vehicle types including straight trucks, tractor/trailer combinations, and material handling machinery.
  • Encourage safe operational practices through safety audits, participation in safety meetings, and one-on-one discussions with team members.
  • Ensure all team members receive adequate training in their respective roles, including both Sims personnel and third-party vendors.
  • Oversee the secure and efficient transport of materials in accordance with company protocols.
  • Facilitate training sessions for employees on topics such as hazardous material management, driver safety, workplace regulations, quality enhancement, and technology usage.
  • Guarantee that all necessary documentation for incoming and outgoing shipments is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial teams, yard operations, and demolition personnel to meet transportation needs efficiently.
  • Engage with relevant vendors and subcontractors for service provision and performance evaluation.
  • Continuously assess the utilization of existing transportation assets for optimal performance.
  • Maintain close communication with operational staff to enhance labor efficiency and address disciplinary matters.
  • Consult with drivers to resolve inquiries, issues, and service requests.
  • Track and update systems to reflect scale crossing durations and load weights.
  • Negotiate and approve contracts with suppliers of equipment and materials, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
  • Prepare management proposals, including recommendations for fee adjustments or schedule modifications.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned.
  • Conduct routine ride-alongs with drivers to foster communication and review standard operating procedures during transport and at loading/unloading sites. Organize road testing for newly recruited drivers.
  • Ensure all drivers commence their shifts on time to fulfill daily tasks and minimize idle time.
  • Monitor time variables for all driver assignments.
  • Establish accurate trip durations for regular routes.
  • Assist in overseeing the safety and compliance of fueling stations and shared areas.
  • Ensure the OTR Fleet is maintained in a clean and presentable condition, coordinating with dispatch for a cleaning schedule.
  • Provide backup support for the Dispatcher as necessary.
  • Participate in regional meetings to present information and address issues pertinent to the area.
  • Work collaboratively with the Transportation Specialist and Directors as required.
  • Enhance customer service levels in alignment with business objectives to ensure prompt service for both internal and external clients.
  • Meet requirements and offer suggestions for alternative arrangements to the Commercial team as needed.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
