Key Responsibilities


Hartzell Engine Technologies is looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to enhance the production processes for original equipment and refurbished components used in aerospace sectors.

The Quality Engineer will oversee effective process management within manufacturing operations. The product range includes turbocharger systems, alternators, cabin heating units, starters, and fuel pumps. All activities will comply with FAA regulations.

Key Deliverables of Position

  • Develop and Maintain Process FMEAs and Control Plans
  • Contribute to the creation of work instructions and facilitate training sessions
  • Establish and Maintain inspection plans for both purchased and manufactured components
  • Engage in Process qualification and PPAP activities
  • Lead initiatives in Customer Issue Resolution
  • Participate in CAR and SCAR management
  • Review engineering drawings and modifications, integrating changes into work instructions
  • Coordinate improvement initiatives with Supplier Quality and operations
  • Participate in Change Control Board (CCB) activities
  • Engage in Material Review Board (MRB) activities
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to HET Quality manuals and procedures

First Year Success Factors

  • Gain proficiency in assigned product lines, including engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer requirements
  • Enhance one product line in terms of First Time Yield (FTY) and scrap reduction
Requirements

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or 7 years of experience in implementing effective systems within a manufacturing environment.

Required Technical Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Expertise in Quality Engineering, Quality Control, and Metrology
a. Capable of developing manufacturing standards to ensure consistent machining practices.

b. Proficient in manual gauging and understanding inspection instructions.

c. Skilled in utilizing automated inspection techniques.

d. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.

e. Knowledgeable in applying statistical methods such as SPC, capability studies, and histograms.

f. Competent in organizing, executing, and interpreting Gage R&R.

  • Structured problem-solving abilities to identify root causes
a. Capacity to formulate plausible root causes and implement effective corrective actions.

b. Familiarity with Six Sigma, Kaizen principles, etc.

  • Manufacturing Knowledge
a. Understanding of automated machine tools and inspection methods.

b. Knowledge of metal cutting operations, fixtures, tooling, and machining.

c. Experience with CNC programming and applications.

d. Familiarity with processing raw materials (casting vs. forgings, etc.).

e. Understanding of material properties (Aluminum, Steel, Elastomers, etc.).

  • Organizational Skills
a. Application of LEAN principles.

b. Group facilitation capabilities.

c. Project management experience.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

Preferred Technical Competencies

1) Operation and programming of CMM equipment.

2) Nondestructive inspection techniques (magnetic particle and fluorescent penetrant).

3) DMIR certification through the FAA.

4) Proficiency in creating FMEAs and developing Control Plans.

5) Experience with aviation quality management systems (e.g., AS9100) and FAA regulatory frameworks.

6) Greenbelt certification in Lean Six Sigma.
