POSITION SUMMARY:

The custodian plays a vital role in upholding the cleanliness and functionality of the school premises, contributing to a healthy and positive learning atmosphere for students.

In addition to standard maintenance duties, the custodian assists classroom educators with the arrangement and upkeep of furniture and equipment.

The custodian also serves as a positive role model for students by demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and a helpful demeanor.

Additionally, the custodian aids in ensuring campus security as needed and collaborates closely with school administration during various activities.


COMPENSATION:
Salary will be determined in accordance with the NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

CLASSIFIED WAGE SCHEDULE JOB GROUP Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 C 3% Retirement Plan Contributions are made to the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of employees.

The district covers the employer's contribution, while employees are required to contribute a mandatory portion via payroll deduction after meeting eligibility criteria.

SCHEDULE:
Working hours are from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, subject to adjustments based on departmental needs.

WORK CALENDAR:
260 days

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have proven experience working with diverse families and communities or demonstrate a commitment to enhancing engagement with a varied community. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, or at least two years of custodial experience may substitute for the educational requirement.

Training in first aid/CPR and defibrillator operation may be necessary. Candidates should possess the ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with all district personnel, vendors, contractors, and public entities.

Candidates must be capable of working efficiently in an environment with frequent interruptions, maintaining focus and producing accurate work while adapting to changing priorities.

Initiative and the ability to work independently are essential, along with sound judgment and decision-making skills. Knowledge of relevant state and local codes is required.

Physical requirements include the ability to work with ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts, and district vehicles, as well as the capacity to stand, lift, and walk for extended periods. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment.



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual and bicultural abilities are preferred. Familiarity with security systems, fire alarms, HVAC systems, and controls is advantageous.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.

Cleaning Functions:
a.

Perform tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and refinishing floors; cleaning, dusting, and polishing furniture; washing windows and walls; maintaining restrooms; disposing of waste; changing light bulbs; and ensuring all areas are kept clean and orderly according to industry standards.

b. Collect litter within the school and on surrounding grounds. c.

Ensure safety during adverse weather conditions, including snow removal and providing slip protection on wet surfaces.

d. Apply cleaning agents following established safety protocols. e. Adhere to safety measures while cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment. f. Execute minor repairs and maintenance as authorized by maintenance staff. g. Remove dirt and markings from surfaces as needed. h. Operate the HVAC system, performing necessary adjustments and maintenance. 2.

Administrative Functions:
a. Identify maintenance needs and submit service requests according to district procedures, ensuring timely follow-up. b. Order cleaning supplies and materials necessary for assigned tasks. c. Promote energy conservation awareness and suggest improvements. d. Secure equipment and supplies to prevent loss or theft. 3.

Safety and Security:
a. Conduct daily inspections of facilities and equipment to prevent injuries or damage. b. Ensure the school building is secured at all times, locking and securing the premises at the end of each shift. c. Verify that emergency equipment is maintained and operational. d. Assist in emergency planning and response. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
