POSITION SUMMARY:

The custodian plays a vital role in upholding the cleanliness and functionality of the school facilities, contributing to a healthy and positive learning atmosphere for students.

Beyond routine maintenance tasks, the custodian also assists teachers with the arrangement and upkeep of classroom furniture and equipment.

The custodian serves as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and a helpful demeanor.

Additionally, the custodian aids in ensuring campus security and collaborates closely with school administrators during various activities.


COMPENSATION:
Salary is determined according to the NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

CLASSIFIED WAGE SCHEDULE JOB GROUP Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 C 3% Retirement Plan Contributions are made to the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of employees.

The district covers the employer contribution, while employees are required to contribute a mandatory portion upon eligibility, defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees who meet the criteria will also qualify.

SCHEDULE:
The work hours are from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, subject to departmental needs.

WORK CALENDAR:
260 days

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must demonstrate successful experience working with diverse families and communities or show a commitment to enhancing engagement with a varied community and possess effective communication skills.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, or at least two years of custodial experience may be considered as a substitute for educational requirements.

Training in first aid, CPR, and defibrillator use may be required. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with all district personnel, vendors, contractors, and public entities.

Ability to work efficiently in an environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining focus and producing accurate work is essential.

Initiative and the ability to work independently with sound judgment are critical. Knowledge of relevant state and local codes related to custodial work is necessary. Candidates must be capable of using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts, and district vehicles. Physical stamina is required, including the ability to stand, lift, and walk for extended periods, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move heavier materials safely.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual and bicultural skills are preferred. Experience with intrusion alarms, automatic fire alarm/sprinkler systems, and HVAC systems is advantageous.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.

Cleaning Functions:
a.

Perform sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and refinishing of floors; clean, dust, and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; maintain restrooms; dispose of waste; change light bulbs; and ensure all areas are kept clean, sanitary, and orderly according to established standards.

b. Collect litter within the school and on school grounds. c.

Ensure safety during inclement weather, including shoveling, salting, and providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, and removing snow from roofs.

d. Use cleaning chemicals following established safety protocols. e. Adhere to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment. f. Carry out minor repairs and maintenance as authorized by maintenance staff. g. Remove dirt and markings from various surfaces (walls, doors, etc.). h. Operate the HVAC system of the assigned school; change belts, lubricate, or make adjustments as necessary. 2.

Administrative Functions:
a. Identify the need for maintenance service requests according to district procedures and ensure timely completion. b. Order cleaning supplies and materials necessary for assigned tasks. c. Maintain awareness of energy conservation and suggest methods to improve efficiency. d. Secure equipment and supplies to prevent loss or theft. 3.

Safety and Security:
a. Conduct daily inspections and maintain awareness of facility and equipment to prevent injuries or damage. b. Ensure proper building security at all times. Lock and secure the building at the end of the shift. c. Verify that emergency equipment is maintained and repaired as needed. d. Assist in implementing emergency planning and response. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. The applicant agrees to cover the cost and arrange for a fingerprint-based criminal records check upon receiving a job offer.
