POSITION SUMMARY:

The custodian plays a vital role in preserving the integrity of the school environment and supports the educational mission by ensuring that facilities are clean and well-maintained.

Responsibilities include assisting teachers with classroom setups and maintaining equipment, while also serving as a positive role model for students.

Custodians are also responsible for campus security and collaborate closely with school administrators during various activities.


COMPENSATION:
Compensation is determined according to the collective bargaining agreement.

Retirement contributions are part of the benefits offered, aligning with state regulations.

Employees are required to contribute a portion of their salary to the retirement plan after meeting eligibility criteria.



SCHEDULE:
Evening shifts are expected, with hours subject to departmental needs.

WORK CALENDAR:
Year-round position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should have experience working with diverse populations or demonstrate a commitment to engaging with varied communities. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, or at least two years of custodial experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Training in first aid and CPR is preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with staff and the public are essential.

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions is necessary, along with sound judgment and decision-making skills.

Physical capabilities include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring mobility and stamina.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual and bicultural skills are a plus. Familiarity with safety systems, HVAC operations, and building maintenance is advantageous.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.

Cleaning Functions:
a.

Perform comprehensive cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing surfaces; maintain cleanliness in restrooms and common areas; ensure all facilities meet health and safety standards.

b.

Manage litter and debris on school grounds and ensure safety during adverse weather conditions.

c.

Utilize cleaning agents safely and according to established protocols.

d.

Conduct minor repairs and maintenance as directed.

2.

Administrative Functions:
a.

Identify maintenance needs and follow through with service requests.

b.

Order necessary cleaning supplies and maintain inventory.

c.

Promote energy conservation practices within the facility.

3.

Safety and Security:
a.

Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure safety and security.

b.

Secure the building at the end of shifts and verify that emergency equipment is operational.
