POSITION SUMMARY:

The custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the school facilities, contributing to a healthy learning environment that promotes student well-being and pride.

In addition to routine maintenance tasks, the custodian provides direct assistance to educators in setting up and maintaining classroom furniture and equipment.

The custodian also serves as a positive role model for students by demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and a helpful attitude.

Additionally, the custodian assists with security measures and collaborates closely with school administrators during various activities.


COMPENSATION:
Wage placement is determined according to the district's collective bargaining agreement.

CLASSIFIED WAGE SCHEDULE JOB GROUP Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 C 3% Retirement Plan Contributions are made on behalf of employees participating in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System.

Employees are required to contribute a portion of their salary towards retirement after a qualifying period of employment.

SCHEDULE:
The typical work hours are from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, subject to departmental needs.

WORK CALENDAR:
260 days

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have experience working with diverse communities or demonstrate a commitment to enhancing engagement with such populations.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, or at least two years of custodial experience may substitute for educational requirements.

First aid certification/CPR training may be required. Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, vendors, and the public are essential.

Ability to work effectively amidst frequent interruptions and changing priorities is necessary. Initiative and the ability to work independently, along with sound judgment, are critical.

Knowledge of relevant state and local codes is preferred. Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, standing, and walking for extended periods is required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual and bicultural skills are a plus. Familiarity with security systems, fire alarms, and HVAC systems is advantageous.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.

Cleaning Functions:
a.

Perform a variety of cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and polishing surfaces; maintaining restrooms; and ensuring all areas are kept clean and orderly.

b. Remove litter from school grounds. c.

Ensure safety during adverse weather conditions, including snow removal and securing against potential hazards.

d. Use cleaning chemicals safely and effectively. e. Follow safety protocols for cleaning and equipment operation. f. Carry out minor repairs as directed by maintenance staff. g. Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior surfaces. h. Operate and maintain HVAC systems as necessary. 2.

Administrative Functions:
a. Identify maintenance needs and ensure timely service requests are made. b. Order necessary cleaning supplies. c. Promote energy conservation practices. d. Secure equipment and supplies to prevent loss or damage. 3.

Safety and Security:
a. Conduct regular inspections of facilities to prevent injuries or damage. b. Ensure the building is secure at all times. c. Maintain emergency equipment and assist in emergency planning.
