POSITION SUMMARY:

The Culinary Specialist I role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities aimed at delivering high-quality, sanitary food services to patients and clients. Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to: portioning and packaging food items; preparing and cooking premium hot and cold meals for patients and clients in accordance with HACCP and departmental protocols; slicing and dicing food products; adhering to standardized recipes; completing HACCP and production documentation; monitoring food temperatures and calibrating thermometers; arranging hot food for optimal presentation; communicating recipe ingredients and portion sizes to service staff; safely operating and maintaining all production equipment; properly storing and utilizing leftover food items in compliance with HACCP and departmental guidelines; and assisting in maintaining the overall cleanliness of the cafeteria and kitchen.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

· A high school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred but not mandatory.

· Completion of annual mandatory ECHN education is required, along with participation in departmental training sessions provided by management.

EXPERIENCE:

· A minimum of two years of culinary experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

COMPETENCIES:

· Proficient English reading and verbal communication skills are essential for effective interaction with colleagues, patients, and care providers within the work environment.

· Ability to write and follow written instructions in English is required.

· Basic math skills, including addition and subtraction, are necessary for accurate completion of required documentation.

· Strong organizational and time management skills are highly desirable.

· Excellent time management abilities are needed to balance multiple priorities effectively.

· Consistent demonstration of considerate interpersonal relations with colleagues and a strong customer service attitude is expected when engaging with coworkers, patients, and visitors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies:

1. Attend monthly departmental meetings.

2. Participate in monthly departmental in-services.

3. Adhere to the ECHN and department uniform policy, including appropriate hair covering at all times.

4. Follow safe food handling practices, including handwashing and glove usage, in accordance with serve-safe and state regulations.

5. Complete all necessary paperwork required for the position (such as HACCP logs, temperature logs, production sheets).

6. Exhibit a willingness to assist colleagues and adapt daily work routines to meet departmental needs.

7. Set up, restock, and maintain a clean workstation while following all sanitation and safety protocols. Properly label, date, and rotate stock.

8. Complete tasks as outlined in the position job flow within the scheduled shift.

9. Accurately follow package directions and/or recipes when preparing hot and cold food items.

10. Complete annual departmental serve-safe food safety training.

11. Demonstrate proper cooking techniques, evidenced by the quality and presentation of finished food items, adherence to applicable dietary restrictions, and customer satisfaction.

12. Utilize personal protective equipment as required.

13. Complete ECHN annual mandatory education in a timely manner.
