Job Summary

This position is located in the Nutrition and Food Service at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Food Service Specialist will be responsible for overseeing food service operations, ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality food services are provided to the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee food service operations, including menu planning, food preparation, and presentation.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Code and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles.
  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance food service operations.
  • Provide budgetary input on food service operations and culinary program advancements.
  • Serve as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for food service, food distribution, and purchase and maintenance of equipment contracts.
  • Conduct studies and investigations to identify areas for improvement and develop logical and documented recommendations for corrective actions.
Requirements
  • At least one (1) year of specialized experience in food service operations, including menu planning, food preparation, and presentation.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, including the FDA Food Code and HACCP principles.
  • Ability to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to provide budgetary input on food service operations and culinary program advancements.
  • Ability to serve as COR for food service, food distribution, and purchase and maintenance of equipment contracts.
  • Ability to conduct studies and investigations to identify areas for improvement and develop logical and documented recommendations for corrective actions.
Working Conditions

This position requires physical exertion when lifting, bending, pushing, frequent walking, standing, stooping, reaching, stretching; and also when unpacking and/or tagging supplies and equipment and carrying moderately heavy items such as personal computers, equipment, subsistence, supplies and chemical supplies.
