Job Description

Objective

This role is essential for overseeing and managing the flow of natural gas and hazardous liquids through various facilities and pipelines, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, regulatory standards, and operational capabilities. The position also involves supporting tasks mandated by relevant regulatory bodies in Control Room Management.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitates the implementation of the daily operational strategy to ensure that scheduled deliveries and receipts align with regulatory and tariff standards while optimizing equipment usage and ensuring safety.
  • Operates and regulates the flow of natural gas and hazardous liquids from the Operations Control Center (OCC) using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • May initiate and halt pumps and compressors, operate valves remotely, assess changing conditions and alarms, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Monitors the integrity of pipelines and facilities, storage tank levels, and system pressures to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Engages in the planning, scheduling, and execution of facility operations, including shutdowns and start-ups in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Records all pertinent operational data in the Controller Event Logger during shifts.
  • Assists in managing abnormal and emergency situations, including dispatching field personnel and implementing necessary corrective actions.
  • Monitors flows, pressures, and material qualities to ensure safe and reliable service.
  • Helps in monitoring alarms and ensures that responses follow established protocols and documentation procedures.
  • Contributes to adjustments in pipeline flows, compression, pumps, and storage to meet current and projected customer demands.
  • Assists in managing customer imbalances while providing high-quality service in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Supports the validation of SCADA, communication, and electronic measurement systems through various Control Room applications and procedures.
  • Mitigates the effects of both planned and unplanned facility outages.
  • Collaborates with schedulers, operations, and third parties to maintain effective inter-departmental and cross-functional relationships.
  • Maintains open communication with OCC Management to keep them updated on the operational status of pipeline and facility systems.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Completion of CRM training and successful passing of OCC preparatory assessments is required to maintain employment.
  • Passing DOT and PHMSA Operator Qualification certification is necessary to continue employment.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the Control Center.
  • Work schedule includes supporting a 12-hour shift pattern and may require weekend coverage as needed.
  • Physical demands include reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Position requires sedentary work in an office Control Room environment, with occasional lifting of light objects.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for monitoring multiple SCADA screens.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite, is required.

Working Conditions

Education and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a Control Room setting is necessary.
  • Knowledge of oil and gas hydraulics is essential.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Reliability and punctuality are critical, with availability for call-in work as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
