Our infrastructure encompasses natural gas gathering and transmission pipelines, NGL and crude oil pipelines, gas processing facilities, and a deep-water floating production system.

The Pipeline Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing and regulating the transportation of natural gas and hazardous liquids through our systems and pipelines, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, regulatory standards, system capabilities, and operational conditions.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing the daily operational strategy as directed to ensure that scheduled receipts and deliveries are executed within DOT and tariff regulations, while optimizing the use of compression and pumping equipment and maintaining safety protocols.
  • Managing and directing the flow of natural gas and hazardous liquids through pipelines from the Operations Control Center (OCC) using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • Starting and stopping pumps and compressors, remotely operating valves, analyzing fluctuating conditions and alarms, and making necessary adjustments.
  • Monitoring the integrity of pipelines and facilities, tank storage levels, and system pressures to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Participating in the planning, scheduling, and execution of facility operations, shutdowns, and start-ups in accordance with PHMSA Control Room Management (CRM) regulations.
  • Documenting all pertinent operational information in the Controller Event Logger during the shift.
  • Communicating the operational plan and system status as part of the shift change protocol following CRM guidelines.
  • Responding to abnormal and emergency operational situations, dispatching field personnel, and taking necessary actions to resolve issues.
  • Monitoring flows, pressures, and material qualities across the system and reacting to SCADA system alarms to ensure safe and reliable service.
  • Addressing all alarms and responding according to established procedures, documentation, callouts, and any associated actions.
  • Adjusting pipeline flows, compression, pumps, and storage to meet current and anticipated customer demands effectively.
  • Assisting in managing customer imbalances while providing a high level of customer service in compliance with FERC guidelines.
  • Supporting the validation of SCADA, communications, and electronic measurement systems using various Control Room applications, methods, and procedures.
  • Mitigating the impacts of both planned and unplanned facility outages.
  • Collaborating with schedulers, operations, and third parties to maintain effective inter-departmental and cross-functional relationships with company personnel.
  • Maintaining proactive communication with OCC Management to keep them informed of the operational status of pipeline and facility systems under their management.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Experience in a control room setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas hydraulics is advantageous.
  • Relevant experience in the oil and gas sector is preferred.
  • A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while following processes and making responsible decisions.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and availability for call-in work during nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite.

Working Environment

  • Completion of CRM training and successful passing of the OCC preparatory assessment is required to continue employment.
  • Passing DOT and PHMSA Operator Qualification certification is necessary to maintain employment.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the Control Center.
  • Work schedule consists of 12-hour shifts alternating between day and night on a four-week rotation schedule.
  • Physical demands of the position include reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work in an office Control Room environment, with the capacity to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Visual acuity requirements include the ability to view and scan multiple SCADA screens closely.
