School Nurse - RN Job Description

**Job Summary:** We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Nurse to join our team at Richmond Public Schools. As a School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students and staff, including health education, first aid, and emergency care.

The ideal candidate will have a valid Virginia Registered Nursing License, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with children, young adults, families, teachers, and school administrators.

**Responsibilities:**
  • Assist in developing an effective school health program
  • Supervise CNA and/or LPN staff
  • Participate in health education committee meetings
  • Distribute health topic bulletins to students, staff, and parents
  • Conduct immunizations, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing
  • Conduct medical case finding and screening activities
  • Maintain student health records
  • Refer students to private or community resources
  • Report student health matters to parents and school personnel
  • Provide emergency nursing services
  • Notify parents of illnesses and potential health problems
  • Implement Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students


**Requirements:**
  • Valid Virginia Registered Nursing License
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Excellent oral, written communications, organizational, and public relations skills
  • Ability to work effectively with children, young adults, families, teachers, and school administrators
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public school education procedures and policies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships


**Estimated Salary:** $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
