Position Overview

The selected candidate will be tasked with overseeing and delivering field engineering support for both subcontracted and direct hire projects. Responsibilities encompass site preparation, deep soil mixing, drainage systems, excavation and backfill operations, road construction, piling, and concrete work. The Field Engineer plays a pivotal role in construction engineering within the civil sector. Key duties include interpreting civil design plans and specifications for the execution of civil tasks, issuing field change documents and nonconformance reports, and preparing inspection and test reports, along with field material requisitions as directed by the Area/Lead Discipline Field Engineer.

Main Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Organization

  • Creates construction drawings and sketches.
  • Leads the preparation of construction drawings and schedules, designs temporary construction facilities, and ensures the completion of 'as built' drawings and other project plans.

Material Management

  • Initiates requisitions for materials needed on-site.
  • Conducts quantity takeoffs for field-purchased materials and equipment.

Quantities

  • Verifies materials using quantity tracking systems or other database systems as necessary.

Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Implements a zero-accident philosophy, ensuring compliance with safety requirements by all personnel in operational areas, and confirms that tools and equipment are maintained in safe working condition.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Actively engages in continuous learning and pursues relevant educational opportunities.

System Turnover Coordination

For Direct Hire

  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of system and area scoping and the drawings necessary for package development.

Subcontract Coordination

  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans.
  • Facilitates the review process for subcontractor submissions.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) is required, along with 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of applicable work experience.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Understanding of cost management, including estimating and forecasting.
  • Extensive experience in civil construction on large-scale projects.
  • Familiarity with structural construction operations, surveying, excavation and backfill processes, and concrete installation.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in direct hire activities such as site preparation, excavation, soil mixing, piling, precast prestressed concrete, and marine operations.
  • Technical knowledge of drainage systems on infrastructure projects, including open-cut excavation, trenching, grading, and general construction around sensitive watercourses.
  • Awareness of current industry quality standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) principles, including a commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Knowledge of supervisory roles related to construction field activities.
  • Experience with roadway construction, mass grading, and slip-form paving activities.
