Rice University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director of Development - Gift Planning to join our team. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for securing planned and complex asset gifts, as well as cultivating and stewarding relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a select portfolio of planned, blended, and complex asset gift prospects through qualifying visits, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Develop and implement gift planning marketing and communications strategies.
  • Collaborate with other development officers to secure and document planned gifts.
  • Prepare sample illustrations for various gift vehicles and assets, including life income gifts, gifts of real estate, and lead trusts.
  • Assist in the development of gift planning policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of combined planned gift and major gift fundraising experience, including at least 3 years of demonstrated success in closing deferred and complex asset planned gifts.
  • Strong knowledge of planned gift vehicles, charitable tax laws, and estate and tax planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and initiate new strategies.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • J.D. or Master's degree in a related field.
  • Successful fundraising experience in a higher education or complex non-profit institution.
  • Experience working in a capital campaign.
  • Experience using Blackbaud CRM or similar alumni/donor database system.
  • Experience with gift planning software such as PG-Calc.
