With a commitment to addressing the needs of youth affected by the shelter and homelessness crisis, BCNY is focused on expanding access to high-quality youth programs that create safe spaces for connection and friendship.

Job Summary

As a proactive organization, BCNY adheres to health and safety regulations to ensure the well-being of our members and staff. The Station Chef plays a vital role in assisting the Sous Chef with meal preparation and service, contributing to the daily food operations for campers and staff. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for culinary arts, experience in a commercial kitchen environment, and the ability to foster a welcoming dining experience for our community.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Sous Chef in preparing and serving all meals.
  • Help maintain an accurate inventory of food and related items in the kitchen.
  • Support food stations in delivering high-quality culinary products, including setup and breakdown before, during, and after meal service.
  • Keep records of all meals served, noting serving sizes and leftovers.
  • Ensure food items are maintained at proper temperatures using approved thermometers.
  • Uphold sanitation and maintenance standards for the kitchen, equipment, and grounds as established by BCNY and health regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Sous Chef.
  • Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure seamless kitchen operations.
  • Engage with campers and staff in a friendly manner, addressing dietary needs or requests.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive dining atmosphere for all.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification required or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Ability to pass a background check and physical examination.
  • Proof of required immunizations and health examination needed prior to employment.
  • Valid Food Handlers Certification required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with youth, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children in outdoor environments.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish/English or Mandarin/English preferred.
  • Experience in group feeding operations for large numbers of individuals.
  • Ability to prepare meals according to specific dietary restrictions.
  • At least 1 year of relevant food service experience.
