Job Summary

As a proactive organization, BCNY prioritizes health and safety for all members and staff. The Station Chef plays a vital role in the kitchen, reporting directly to the Sous Chef. This position involves assisting in meal preparation and service, ensuring a positive dining experience for campers and staff. The ideal candidate should possess a passion for culinary arts, experience in a commercial kitchen, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Sous Chef to prepare and serve all meals efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of food and supplies.
  • Prepare high-quality culinary offerings, ensuring proper setup and cleanup before, during, and after service.
  • Keep detailed records of meals served, including portion sizes and leftovers.
  • Monitor food temperatures using approved methods to ensure safety.
  • Uphold sanitation and maintenance standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Sous Chef.
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure seamless operations.
  • Engage with campers and staff to address dietary needs and requests.
  • Promote a welcoming and inclusive dining environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification required or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to pass a background check and physical examination.
  • Compliance with immunization requirements as per state regulations.
  • Submission of health examination proof and immunization records prior to employment.
  • Valid Food Handlers Certification required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with youth in a camp setting preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for working outdoors with children in various conditions.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish/English or Mandarin/English are advantageous.
  • Experience in large-scale food service operations is preferred.
  • Ability to prepare meals accommodating dietary restrictions.
  • At least one year of relevant food service experience is required.
