GENERAL OVERVIEW

As a vital member of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, the Security Enforcement Officer III engages in advanced security operations. This role encompasses the supervision and surveillance of the facility's premises, ensuring the safety and security of both personnel and visitors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The officer is responsible for:

  • Controlling access to the facility by verifying the identity of individuals entering and exiting secured areas.
  • Conducting regular patrols of the grounds and buildings to identify unauthorized access, fire hazards, or other unusual activities, promptly reporting any emergencies.
  • Monitoring surveillance systems and documenting incidents throughout the facility.
  • Managing vehicle traffic at entry points, including deliveries and contractor access.
  • Responding to emergencies and initiating appropriate notifications as necessary.
  • Welcoming visitors and maintaining accurate logs of all individuals and vehicles on the premises.
  • Overseeing radio communications and ensuring effective coordination during security operations.
  • Issuing and managing keys, ensuring strict control over access points.
  • Collaborating with facility personnel to achieve security objectives and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Identifying and addressing any security breaches or violations.
  • Monitoring for and addressing disparities related to race, ethnicity, and gender in security practices.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support the security team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND REQUIREMENTS

This position requires a commitment to safety protocols, including:

  • Reporting and addressing safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintaining regular attendance in accordance with agency policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Possession of a Level II or III security guard license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Experience in military police or military service.
  • Familiarity with firearms.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role involves various physical activities, including:

  • Heavy lifting and carrying (up to 45 lbs).
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and climbing.
  • Effective communication and observation skills.
