Legal CPS Regional Attorney III

The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services seeks a highly skilled and experienced attorney to serve as a Regional Attorney for Child Protective Services. This is a critical role that requires expertise in family law, civil litigation, and agency policy.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide direct representation in court for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in legal cases.
- Offer expertise, guidance, and instruction in family law, civil litigation, and agency policy to staff and the legal community.
- Monitor the progress of all Texas Department of Family and Protective Services court cases within the assigned area of responsibility and take appropriate measures to ensure timely and appropriate resolution.
- Interact with various stakeholders, including caseworkers, supervisors, program directors, agency attorneys, county and district attorneys, judges, agency clients, witnesses, community professionals, and expert witnesses.
- Advise staff on legal matters and interpret laws, regulations, and policies.
- Advise county and district attorneys on legal matters and interpret laws, regulations, and policies.
- Provide agency representation in court cases.
- Prepare cases for trial and handle the trial on most cases.
- Provide legal training to agency staff and the legal community.
- Coordinate specialized legal efforts with appropriate experts.
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, legal pleadings, and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations.
- Assist in formulating, establishing, and coordinating office systems.
- Promote, monitor, and ensure that respect is demonstrated for cultural diversity.
- Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.
- Knowledge of family law and civil practice.
- Ability to synthesize law, administrative rules, agency policies, and goals, and best practice recommendations to reach an appropriate interpretation.
- Ability to convey complex legal ideas and instructions clearly to staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with agency staff and the legal community.
