About This Role
We are in search of a seasoned leader in mechanical engineering to spearhead our team focused on innovative cultivation systems aimed at scaling cell-based meat production. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and creative vision to guide a team in the rapid ideation, design, fabrication, and testing of new cultivator prototypes. The mechanical engineering team collaborates closely with the bioprocess development team to establish system requirements and assess the performance of new prototypes, all while aligning with the company's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers to develop innovative and efficient process equipment solutions for meat production.
  • Oversee timelines and plans for new equipment from conception to delivery.
  • Review, edit, and approve designs while enhancing manufacturability.
  • Identify optimal manufacturing methods for equipment designs.
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of the mechanical engineering team.
  • Distribute and manage workload within the mechanical engineering team.
  • Represent the mechanical engineering team's initiatives and strategies to the broader organization.
About You
  • Possess a college or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering with over 12 years of relevant experience in design, prototyping, manufacturing, and testing of innovative industrial equipment.
  • Have at least 5 years of experience managing a team of three or more individuals.
  • Experience in managing external vendors and contractors, including international manufacturers.
  • Able to estimate and schedule upcoming projects effectively.
  • Familiarity with prototyping and large-scale manufacturing processes (CNC, injection molding, etc.).
  • Experience with metalworking processes (welding, stamping, forming, etc.).
  • Background in designing and fabricating systems for food and/or bioprocessing.
  • Proficient in computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, and thermal analysis software.
  • Demonstrated ability to devise innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Possess a proactive attitude and thrive in uncertain environments.
Collaboration
The mechanical engineering team is integral to various technical functions within the company, collaborating with teams ranging from early-stage science to manufacturing at our production facility. This position will frequently engage with our bioprocess teams, offering a unique opportunity to assist in scaling technologies from the laboratory to full production.

Key Contributions in the First Year
  • Lead the team in scaling next-generation hygienic equipment.
  • Establish strategies and vendor relationships for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify testing and process enhancements.
Compensation Range: $115,500 - $200,000*
*Compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills.
