Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Trauma Performance Improvement Nurse to join our team at Desert Regional Medical Center. As a key member of our trauma program, you will play a critical role in monitoring and improving the quality of care provided to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the trauma program in monitoring all aspects of care, ensuring consistency with established guidelines and protocols.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and manage the performance improvement program, working closely with the trauma administrative team.
  • Meet Riverside County Trauma Center Standards, as well as Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons standards.
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations, corporate, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Manage patient information, promote teamwork, and provide positive customer service.
  • Participate in hospital, Tenet, Medical Staff, and Department meetings as assigned.
  • Meet hospital-wide and department-specific competencies.
  • Participate willingly in Department/Hospital process improvement plans.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient and physician information, demonstrating understanding of HIPAA.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Maintain participation in a state or national clinical organization pertaining to trauma registry.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency with computer hardware, trauma registry software, and ensuring preventative and routine maintenance for a database registry.
  • Accurately identify all patients for entry into the hospital trauma registry, abstract data from medical records, and complete and verify data collected and entered as a requirement for a level II trauma center.
  • Aid in the preparation for the American College of Surgeons-Committee (ACS-COT) on Trauma Center Verification/Re-verification and/or the Riverside County EMS Agency trauma survey.
  • Analyze trauma data to provide routine and ad-hoc reports of trauma statistics and performance improvement and patient safety audits/filters to the TPM.
  • Assign and score all injuries utilizing the AIS and ICD-10 system or equivalent.
  • Collect and code data on all procedures, complications, and ensure all data elements for the hospital trauma registry are collected, entered, and validated per current local, state, and/or national standards.
  • Attend required orientation and training seminars.
  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity in problem-solving.
  • Design, implement, and test user interfaces and reports for database applications.
  • Develop and report trauma audit filter information to the Trauma Operational Committee and Trauma Pl Committee as appropriate.
  • Ensure loop closure on all identified issues.
  • Establish and maintain databases used for testing new and modified applications.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient care and business matters.
  • Meet production standards within established time requirements.
  • Modify and maintain database structure and methods as required.
  • Monitor the security of data to ensure the integrity and reliability of database systems.
  • Other duties as assigned by the TPM.
Position Qualifications
  • Current California RN license.
  • Current American Heart Association BCLS certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of five years trauma nursing experience (ED or ICU).
  • Knowledge of trauma statistical reports, peer review, performance improvement, and injury prevention, epidemiology is an asset.
  • Ability to create and make data presentations to groups with varied needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
