GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nursing Manager is directly accountable for overseeing all facets of their clinical area(s)/department, which encompass daily assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of the delivery of high-quality patient care in a cost-efficient manner. In this role, the Manager is tasked with organizing work, supervising personnel, fostering staff development, managing budgets, ensuring quality assurance, driving process improvements, and resolving issues related to service delivery and associated programs within the department and Cancer Center. The manager acts as a clinical support and resource for staff, contributing to nursing by upholding the mission goals, objectives, educational, and research initiatives of both the Cancer and Medical Centers.

Responsible for the creation, implementation, and monitoring of key programs and services related to the full spectrum of breast and breast cancer care, as well as diagnostic imaging.

These services further the vision of Desert Regional Medical Center to establish unique environments where patients, their families, healthcare providers, and staff collaborate to achieve longer and improved lives in the battle against cancer.

DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop, implement, and oversee the overall budget for the Breast Center and diagnostic radiology, establishing and achieving volume and revenue targets for comprehensive services.
  2. Represent The Comprehensive Breast Center at relevant administrative, clinical, medical, and community meetings.
  3. Supervise staff operations, functions, problem-solving, and resolution of staff issues, including training on new equipment & procedures and onboarding new personnel. This may encompass recruitment and performance management. Facilitate weekly operational meetings with medical and clinical staff.
  4. Design, plan, and direct the implementation of comprehensive breast center and diagnostic radiology services, including equipment acquisition, while adhering to the strategic plan for program development.
  5. Oversee facilities management, including equipment, space, and regulatory compliance.
  6. Maintain the departmental policy/procedure manual, monitoring and revising as necessary.
  7. Direct all clinical and non-clinical activities of the department concerning services, programs, and staffing needs. Coordinate staffing and work schedules, develop and implement policies and procedures, participate in departmental quality assurance, and provide training and orientation for all new employees. Conduct annual performance evaluations and competencies, facilitating educational opportunities for staff development. Foster a positive work environment that supports open communication between staff and management.
  8. Organizational Focus: Identify and establish departmental goals aligned with the mission statement and organizational objectives of the Center; facilitate interdepartmental coordination, identifying opportunities for growth and change to ensure the quality of patient care and services are upheld. Act as a change agent, utilizing these opportunities to implement necessary changes in the clinical environment.

Cost-Effective Management of Quality Outcomes: Monitor FTE and operating budget variances, implementing effective action plans. Communicate budgetary information to staff, seeking their input to enhance productivity and efficiency. Develop, implement, and evaluate productivity standards, monitoring improvement trends; develop, implement, and evaluate quality control measures, tracking improvement trends.

Clinical Practice: Function as a positive, creative, and effective leader, establishing high-quality standards and performance expectations. Serve as a role model and clinical resource for staff, providing guidance and professional development. Monitor patients' clinical management to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and effective quality nursing care. Advocate for patients in the coordination and delivery of quality care; ensure complete and accurate documentation of the nursing process. Communicate, negotiate, and resolve patient care and departmental issues effectively, collaborating with all members of the healthcare team. Participate in departmental planning and preparation for accreditation surveys, maintaining these standards continuously.

Professional Self-Development: Identify and engage in professional development activities related to departmental and Center goals. Participate in programs for professional growth and development, utilizing educational opportunities to enhance performance and career advancement to achieve established self-development goals.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to Federal, State, and Municipal laws, regulations, and ordinances concerning safety, wages, employment discrimination, accreditation, licensure, certification, and reimbursement. Comply with all Medical Center policies and procedures, ensuring completion of quality assurance monitoring, implementing changes based on outcomes. Address customer and staff complaints promptly and appropriately, implementing changes as warranted by feedback. Contribute to customer satisfaction initiatives relevant to the department and Cancer Center.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Current CA RN License (must be maintained at all times)
  2. Current American Heart Association BLS Certification required (must be maintained at all times).
  3. Compliance with regulatory requirements (i.e., TJC) appropriate for the position.
  4. Oncology experience
  5. Ambulatory care experience
  6. Management/leadership skills to mentor staff and facilitate daily operations of the department.
  7. Act as a liaison for the Medical Center, physician groups, and the general public
  8. Teaching/education skills required. Ability to instruct patients and caregivers, nursing staff, and support staff.
  9. Public speaking experience and adequate writing skills
  10. 3 years of experience in a supervisory role

Shift: Days

Pay Range: $116,480 - $187,200

Note: Individual wages are determined based on various factors, including qualifications and experience.
