Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care facility recognized as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma center, featuring a progressive, patient-focused Rehabilitation Services Department. Our dedicated team offers a comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nursing Manager is accountable for overseeing all facets of their clinical area(s)/department, which encompasses daily assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of quality patient care delivery in a cost-efficient manner. In this role, the Manager is tasked with organizing workflows, supervising personnel, fostering staff development, managing budgets, ensuring quality assurance, enhancing processes, and resolving issues related to service delivery and programs within the department and Cancer Center. The manager serves as a clinical support and resource for staff, contributing to nursing by upholding the mission goals, objectives, educational, and research initiatives of both the Cancer and Medical Centers.

Responsibilities include the creation, implementation, and monitoring of key programs and services related to the full spectrum of breast and breast cancer care, along with diagnostic imaging.

These services align with Desert Regional Medical Center's vision to establish unique environments where patients, their families, physicians, and staff collaborate to achieve longer and improved lives in the battle against cancer.

DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Formulate, implement, and oversee the overall budget for the Breast Center and diagnostic radiology, establishing and achieving volume and revenue targets for comprehensive services.
  2. Represent The Comprehensive Breast Center at relevant administrative, clinical, medical, and community meetings.
  3. Oversee staff operations, addressing functions, problem-solving, staff training on new equipment & procedures, and orientation of new hires. This may involve recruitment and performance management. Facilitate weekly operational meetings with medical and clinical staff.
  4. Develop, plan, and direct the implementation of comprehensive breast center and diagnostic radiology services, including equipment acquisition, adhering to the strategic plan for program development.
  5. Manage facilities, including equipment, space, and regulatory compliance.
  6. Maintain and update the departmental policy/procedure manual as necessary.
  7. Direct all clinical and non-clinical activities of the department concerning services, programs, and staffing needs. Coordinate staffing and work schedules, develop and implement policies and procedures, participate in departmental quality assurance, and provide training and orientation for new employees. Conduct annual performance evaluations and competencies while facilitating educational opportunities for staff development. Promote a positive work environment that encourages open communication between staff and management.
  8. Organizational Focus:
    1. Identify and establish departmental goals aligned with the mission statement and organizational objectives of the Center; facilitate interdepartmental coordination, identifying growth and change opportunities to maintain quality patient care and services. Act as a change agent, utilizing these opportunities to implement necessary changes in the clinical environment.
  9. Cost-Effective Management of Quality Outcomes:
    1. Monitor FTE and operating budget variances, implementing effective action plans. Communicate budgetary information to staff, seeking their input to enhance productivity and efficiency. Develop, implement, and evaluate productivity standards, monitoring improvement trends; develop, implement, and evaluate quality control measures, monitoring improvement trends.
  10. Function as a positive, innovative, and effective leader, establishing high-quality standards and performance expectations. Serve as a role model and clinical resource for staff, providing guidance and professional development. Monitor patients' clinical management to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and effective nursing care. Advocate for patients in the coordination and delivery of quality care; ensure complete and accurate documentation of the nursing process. Communicate, negotiate, and resolve patient care and departmental issues effectively, collaborating with all healthcare team members. Participate in departmental planning and preparation for accreditation surveys, maintaining these standards continuously.
  11. Professional Self-Development:
    1. Identify and engage in professional development activities related to departmental and Center goals. Participate in programs for professional growth and development, utilizing educational opportunities to enhance performance and career advancement to achieve pre-established self-development goals.
  12. Regulatory Compliance:
    1. Ensure adherence to Federal, State, and Municipal laws, regulations, and ordinances concerning safety, wages, employment discrimination, accreditation, licensure, certification, and reimbursement. Comply with all Medical Center policies and procedures, ensuring completion of quality assurance monitoring and implementing changes based on outcomes. Address customer and staff complaints promptly and appropriately, implementing changes as warranted by feedback. Contribute to customer satisfaction initiatives relevant to the department and Cancer Center.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Current CA RN License (must be maintained at all times).
  2. Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (must be maintained at all times).
  3. Compliance with regulatory requirements (i.e., TJC) relevant to the position.
  4. Background in oncology.
  5. Experience in ambulatory care.
  6. Management and leadership skills to mentor staff and facilitate daily departmental operations.
  7. Act as a liaison for the Medical Center, physician groups, and the public.
  8. Teaching and educational skills required; ability to instruct patients, caregivers, nursing staff, and support staff.
  9. Experience in public speaking and adequate writing skills.
  10. Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
  11. Knowledge of hospital operations, rules, and regulations.
  12. Experience in business and program development.
  13. Skills in physician relations and recruiting.
  14. Background in healthcare management.
  15. Strong customer service orientation.
  16. Understanding of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
  17. Experience in staff development.
  18. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  19. Aptitude for mediating and resolving conflicts.
  20. Experience in program and product line development.
  21. Strong organizational skills.

Preferred:

  1. BSN and MSN preferred.

Shift: Days

Pay Range: $116,480 - $187,200

Individual wages are determined based on various factors, including qualifications and experience.

Desert Regional Medical Center complies with federal, state, and/or local laws regarding mandatory vaccination of its workforce.
