Job Title: Public Health Nurse Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse Supervisor to join our team at the Virginia Department of Health. As a key member of our clinical leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the clinical epidemiological program, operations management, and supervision of public health team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exercise line supervision over multiple registered nurses, including training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and discipline.
  • Perform direct nursing service by providing professional care to patients in clinics, homes, and schools.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, and administer medication and case management.
  • Protect the public's health by providing program oversight and expertise in multiple fields, including tuberculosis case management, childhood lead exposures, rabies exposures, emergency shelter response, epidemic preparedness, and employee health programs.
  • Be a key member of the agency's Rapid Response Team, ensuring readiness to respond to public health emergencies.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff in public health nursing and population health.
  • Knowledge of grants, case management, ambulatory clinic services, and agencies/programs supporting underserved and underinsured populations.
  • Knowledge of public and community health principles, nursing, and healthcare programs.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual and experience with diverse cultures.
  • Experience in public health settings.
  • Experience managing grants.
  • Considerable knowledge of public health nursing principles and practices.
  • Clinical nursing experience.
