Position Overview

The Senior Writer for the Alumnae Relations and Development division plays a crucial role in enhancing communication strategies, organizing events, and fostering volunteer initiatives aimed at strengthening alumnae and donor relationships. This role involves proposing, researching, composing, editing, and refining both personalized and mass communication materials targeted at alumnae and donors. Key projects encompass crafting gift proposals, background documents, newsletters, news articles, profile narratives, brochures, event materials, website content, social media posts, video scripts, solicitation letters, and presidential communications.

Key Responsibilities

Enhance Major Gift Initiatives (40%)

  • Conduct research and create tailored proposals and correspondence for alumnae, donors, and supporters of the institution.
  • Develop talking points and background documents that articulate the case for various institutional priorities, adaptable for individual proposals and communications.
  • Draft and edit solicitation letters, emails, social media content, and video scripts that promote regular contributions to the annual fund, a vital resource for academic innovation and scholarships.
  • Contribute to the creation of printed and digital materials that support fundraising efforts, recognize donor contributions, and highlight the impact of donor support.

Support Alumnae Engagement Strategies (40%)

  • Research and produce engaging newsletters and digital content, including donor and student profiles, news updates, and case statements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across various departments to generate compelling content that resonates with alumnae and donors.
  • Assist in developing additional printed and digital communications that enhance alumnae engagement initiatives.

Manage Special Projects and Editorial Needs (20%)

  • Review and refine written materials produced by team members to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and planning sessions to align on strategic objectives.
  • Copyedit departmental materials as required, adhering to established communication guidelines and branding standards.

Additional Responsibilities (5%)

Engage in team meetings, task forces, and committees as necessary, providing support to colleagues as needed.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree along with a minimum of seven years of demonstrated experience in professional writing, proposal development, or journalism is required.

Experience working with diverse populations is essential.

Preferred Experience

Background in higher education development or public relations is advantageous. Familiarity with digital media and content creation is preferred, along with experience in philanthropy and major gift fundraising.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Drupal, WordPress, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
