Overview:
As a Principal Engineer - Processing, you will be instrumental in providing technical guidance and leadership to ensure the successful execution of capital projects and the establishment of enterprise-wide standards. Your role will involve collaborating with diverse teams to assess product and processing requirements, ultimately crafting optimized technical and business solutions that align with our strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert technical solutions that support our organizational goals while adhering to established standards and processes.
  • Formulate comprehensive design guidelines, standards, and templates for process equipment and applications across the organization.
  • Create detailed Operational Factors that elucidate the functionality of specific end-to-end processes.
  • Develop thorough Front-End-Loading (FEL) packages that reflect due diligence and are essential for project success, including:
    • Technology assessments and recommended solutions that incorporate best practices from the industry.
    • Diagrams illustrating physical layouts and equipment placements.
    • Assessment of infrastructure requirements.
    • Preliminary estimates for capital and operational expenses.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Project Manager to establish schedules that meet project timelines.
  • Define performance criteria for equipment and systems.
  • Identify project alternatives, prerequisites, risks, and opportunities.
  • Draft detailed functional control descriptions for unit operations and processing systems.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of FEL packages for accuracy and operational effectiveness.
  • Provide technical insights through Technical Briefs to guide project teams.
  • Prepare Business Case Screening Estimates to offer a directional view of project viability.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in food processing technology and relevant industry regulations.
  • Offer technical and economic feasibility insights to internal teams focused on improvements and competitive advantages.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Food Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in the food, pet food, nutraceutical, or beverage sectors, with a strong background in process design and engineering.
  • Experience in plant operations is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in project engineering and execution.
  • Ability to communicate technical requirements effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies in engineering design.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a matrix organization.
  • Proficient in translating project requirements into technical solutions using sound engineering principles.
  • A curious mindset with a passion for understanding system dynamics and innovative problem-solving.
  • Willingness to travel within North America.
